Mexico - Summer 2023

Purpose:

To raise awareness in the North American church of the need to prepare indigenous leaders, establish effective discipleship practices, and accelerate the spread of the Gospel in the mountains of Zongolica, Veracruz where there are 416,000 Náhuatl speakers located across 800 regions. 

Long-term Goal:

Raise up 800 Mobile Messengers that can turn into 800 church planters. 

General Objective:

The team will partner with one of the Open Eyes Mexican field leader, Javier Hernandez. He has been working among the Nahuatl people over the last 17 years among the Nahuatl people. The team will minister in these communities, and will experience the culture, food, and traditions of this indigenous group in Mexico. 

Dates:

July 23 - July 30, 2023 

Cost:

$1,260 (hotels in Mexico City and Zongolica, meals, transportation to and from Zongolica from Mexico City, ministry visits and offerings, and support for local leadership team). 

*Airfare expense will be based on airport of origin

General Itinerary:

- July 23rd: Arrival in Mexico City, followed by a dinner and check-in at your hotel.

- July 24th: Breakfast at the hotel, followed by an 8 am departure for Veracruz.
We expect to arrive in Orizaba, Veracruz by mid-day. After lunch in Veracruz, we will drive for another 2 hours to reach Zongolica by 5 pm. In the evening, we will unpack and have some time to explore the surroundings.

- July 25th to 27th: Work with Pastor Javier.

• Assist in the construction of a children's ministry building/repair the foundation of an existing training facility
• Work alongside the local church community to minister to the children through various activities such as games, crafts, and music

 
- July 28th: A fun day in Zongolica. Pastor Javier and the Mexico leadership team will arrange some activities for you to rest, explore the area, and have a time of reflection and debrief.

- July 29th: Return to Mexico City. You will be dropped off at the hotel, from where you can conveniently reach the airport the next day. In case we arrive in Mexico City on the same day as your flight, we will take you straight to the airport.
